More About Dental Implants

Single Tooth Implant

When you have just one missing tooth, very often the best way to replace it is a dental implant. A single tooth implant is a stand -alone unit and does not involve treating (compromising) the teeth next to it like a bridge does. And, a dental implant supported crown has a better survival rate than bridge, meaning that they last longer than a bridge.

 Implant Bridge

Dental implants may be used to support a bridge when several teeth are missing. The bridge replaces the lost natural teeth and some of the tooth roots. An implant supported bridge does not require support from surrounding teeth, which therefore does not overload the surrounding teeth. Not only implant bridge relieve the load from your adjacent teeth, but help you conserve your jaw ridge bone structure and keep your jaw arch in good alignment.

Implant Dentures

If you are missing all of your teeth, an implant-supported denture can replace the missing teeth and some of the tooth roots. Because the dental implants integrate with the jawbone, an implant-supported denture tends to be comfortable and stable, allowing you to bite and chew naturally.

Dental Implants Surgery Phases

What is Involved?

The first step in dental implant treatment is to get a free consultation with our experienced implant dentists. We can help yo decide whether implant treatment is right for you. There are many different kinds of dental implants. Treatment can take only one day or it can take several months or even more than a year.  we can custom a treatment solution based on your needs and desire that is most likely to be successful for you.

There are three general phases of implant treatment:

Phase 1. Placement of the Implant
The dentist surgically places the implant into the jawbone. There may be some swelling and/or tenderness after the surgery, so pain medication is usually prescribed to ease the discomfort. Your dentist may recommend a diet of soft foods, cold foods and warm soup during the healing process.

Phase 2. The Healing Process

What makes an implant so strong is that the bone actually grows around it, and holds it in place. This process is called Osseointergration, meaning "combines with the bone. Osseoingtergration takes time. Some patients might need to wait until the implant  is completely intergrated, up to several months, before replacement of teeth can be attached to the implants. Other patients can have the implants and replacement teeth placed all in one visit.

Phase 3. Placement of the Prosthesis (artificial tooth or teeth)

  • For a single tooth implant, our dentists custom-make a new tooth for you, called a dental crown. It is based on a size, shape, color and fit that will blend with your other teeth. With the advanced 3D technology we have, we could make a crown in one visit. with amazing accuracy and comfort for you.
  • Implant-supported bridges are similar to single  tooth implant, but have multiple units. Implant-supported dentures are also made to fit your mouth and your Implants. Once completed, the man-made teeth are attached to the implant posts.

Some prosthesis usually takes time to make. In the meantime, we may give you a temporary crown, bridge or denture. This can help you eat and speak normally until the permanent replacement is ready. Our patients are very happy that quite often they have some interim teeth to function and smile.

Dental Implants FAQ

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most patients find that a dental implant is secure & stable form of replacement for their own tooth. Certainly, if we could save a natural tooth, we would absolutely save it for you. If you have missing teeth & are in good general health, with a jawbone that can support a dental implant, this treatment may be a great option for you! In fact, your health is more of a factor than your age.

Dental Implants however, are not an option for everyone. Patients should be medically evaluated before any implant surgery is scheduled. Patients either must have enough bone to support the implant, or be a good candidate for a procedure to build up the bone where the implant will be placed.

Chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or leukemia, may interfere with healing after surgery. Patients with these issues may not be good candidates for implants. Using tobacco can also slow healing.

Oral hygiene is very important for the success of the dental implant. You must spend time caring for the implant & making sure the area around it is very clean. If not, you may increase your risk for gum disease, which can weaken the bone and tissues needed to support the implant.
