What are wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last permanent teeth to come in the mouth. These teeth usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25. As human evolve, especially the last hundred years, more and more people have impacted wisdom teeth, although some people never develop wisdom teeth, or may erupt their wisdom teeth normally.

When do wisdom teeth normally come in?

Most people, wisdom teeth start to form in the jaw about 12 to 13 year of age, while they barely cause any trouble. At about age 17 to 25, they start to actively trying to break through jaw bone and gum to come into mouth, for a small percent of people, their wisdom teeth can just come into right position, and not causing trouble. For the majority of adolescence and young adults, they come in with pain and swelling, or most likely can not come in at all and causing trouble to the teeth in front of them.

When do wisdom teeth need to be removed?

1. Most people's wisdom teeth don't come into the correct position, and cause trouble.

2. They may come in at an angle toward the front teeth, causing decay to the teeth in front of them. 

3. The continuous growth force may cause crowding of front teeth.

4. They are difficult to keep clean and get cavities in later life.

5. They may develop gum diseases easily and contain to the teeth in front of them.

6. It is easier to remove them in adulacence and early adulthood, and cause less complications.
